Example of a Locking Storm Bar Application

Two locking bars are recommended for shutters larger than 60" in height.

Security bars provide security and protection from storm damage by providing a secure closure. The installation shown is designed to be secured from the outside. They security bars can be shortened and only attach at the center meet point of the shutters for closure from inside. This option provides a secure closure but is not as strong as the full width security bar attached on the outside. This shorter security bar option is intended for situations where access is limited to the outside and with the understanding that it is a convenience closure and does not meet any code for storm protection.

The true hurricane locking bar or bars will extend past the edge of the shutter panels and will be attached to the wall on each side. This meets the requirement to completely secure the Colonial and Bahama style shutters in accordance with the SBCCI code for hurricane protection.
